How to Repair a Power Window

First, we need to determine why the power window isn’t working well by taking the door apart to see what is wrong. If you hear some noises inside the door, something could be broken. If you don’t hear any noises, it could be a bad switch, a fuse or the relay. You need a screwdriver to take the door apart.  Start by pulling off all of the door pulls and handles as carefully as you can. Try to take a picture so you can put the parts back in their correct spot. Give them a strong pull, they will start to pop out. Continue pulling until you get them off. 

  1.  If a fuse is not working, you need to check the window manual to know where the fuse box is so you can buy a new one and replace it. Make sure that the new fuse is correctly set.
  2. If the issue is present in all the windows and the fuses are working fine, then it could be something simpler than a blown fuse. Take a look under the dash to find out.
  3. If there are no issues with any of the aforementioned parts, we need to check the wiring. Find the electrical schematic of your car. Check that there are no breaks in the connection from the fuse to the switch.  A multi-meter is needed to confirm that the switch is getting 12V, that’s what we are looking for. 

We are also looking for any interrupted voltage. This can be caused by a loose connector or corrosion. It will disrupt the signal and cause the power window to malfunction. If you find any of the previous situations, you need to fix it by cleaning the corrosion and pushing connectors together.
