What to do when your Car Window Gets Stuck on the road?
Imagine you are on a Sunday morning driving for a family trip, everything is perfect, you rolled down your car window but you realize you can’t get it back up. Nothing can be more frustrating at this time than a car window stuck. At Y&L we care about you, in this blog we want to share some emergency tips to fix a stuck car window.
How a car windows work.
Car windows use a part called a regulator to raise and lower them inside channels. Electric windows have regulators that are hooked up to motors, but they operate on the same basic principle.
First, diagnose the problem.
If you hear some noises inside the door, something could be broken. If you don’t hear any noises, it could be a bad switch, a fuse or the relay. We recommend visiting the experts so you don’t put your power window at risk. Here at Y&L Auto Glass, we provide free quotes and mobile services for your power window repairs.
Emergency tips to fix a stuck car window.
The best option is to contact a professional, but if you are not able to contact a professional or you want to try first, here is what you can do:
- Turn the Car On – Make sure the car ignition is set to the on position.
- Press and Hold – Press the switch down in the desired direction and make sure to keep the button depressed while completing the other steps.
- Slam the Door – With the button held down, slam the car door and repeat if unsuccessful on the first try. If the window does manage to roll up, do not lower it again until you can contact a professional.
- Use a Hand – If slamming the car door with the button pressed was ineffective, try hitting the door with a fist or object. Take care not to harm your hand or door.
If the previous tips don’t work, try the following:
- Turn the Car On.
- Sandwich Glass – Open the car door and sandwich the car window between the palms of your hands.
- Use Assistance – Ask someone press and hold the window button.
- Lift the Window – Using gradual pressure, press the window up with the palms of your hands. If gripping the window from the top for added force, be careful not to get hands and fingers caught as it comes closed.
If it still doesn’t work, give us a call and we will be more than happy to assist you.
