Defrosting Your Windshield in the Mornings
Cold mornings
Worrying about leaving your car outside overnight during the coldest days in the year? Defrosting your windshield during these cold mornings, most likely when you’re leaving really early, is always a hazard.
At Y & L Auto Glass, we are aware that the change in the seasons means that tackling a frozen windshield becomes an inevitable inclusion in your morning routine. That’s why we are sharing some simple steps to easily defrost your car windshield.
Easy steps to defrost your windshield
- Use your vehicle’s defrost option. Start the engine and set to defrost.
- Use a scraper on your windshield – it can be plastic or you can use a bristle brush. Never use a metal scraper, it can scratch your windshield.
- Spray cold water or lukewarm just before wiping. Never use hot water (because it refreezes), salt, or alcohol. Salt or alcohol solutions can ruin your vehicle paint. We recommend that you just use plain water without any additives.
- Don’t leave your car running unattended!
Here are some ideas to help prevent frost on your windshield
Windshield Cover
A windshield cover is a good tool you can always trust to prevent frost on your windshield. These covers are easy to put on and take off – you’ll do it in a matter of seconds. They are quick to store away when not in use and will easily fit into your trunk or glove box. A great must-have item for your vehicle!
Your own DIY windshield cover
If you don’t have a windshield cover, other items will work. Any type of carpet remnants will work, as well as old tablecloths and shower curtains. The goal is get the windshield completely covered so it doesn’t get frozen.
East
When parking your car during the night, facing East helps clear your windshield. Remember that the sun rises in the East, which will help defrost your windshield easily. This works perfectly during sunny mornings. With this, you should be able to use your windshield wipers to do the not-so-heavy-lifting for you.
